Koen Van der Schaeghe, reporter for ‘Best One’ lifestylemagazine, spent an afternoon at my office and condensed hours of my enthusiasm on his digital pocketrecorder into a well rounded, accurate and comprehensive article about me.

Tomorrow’s designers: an interview with Jiri

My ‘Wally’ wall-system/screen got an honourable distinction at the Design For Europe competition, part of Interieur 06 Kortrijk, one of Europe’s nicest design-fairs. So Dieter Van Den Storm, journalist and project-coordinator of Interieur, came over for a witty interview in De Standaard Magazine (complementary magazine to Belgium’s nr1 newspaper), presenting the new bread of emerging designers like myself.

Miss belgian beauty meets Utilia

In a succeeded attempt to bringing design closer to the people, Chris Meplon (journalist) dreamed up the idea of confronting the Miss Belgian Beauty finalists with Flemish emerging design talent; and have them jury their objects. A fun afternoon, reported in the lifestyle magazine Karaat

Utilia at shopping village

Ad!dict Creative Lab, an international creativity network based in Brussels, installed a laboratory in Maasmechelen Village Outlet Shopping. This physical space is proof of Addictlab’s unique multi-layered concept to showcase Belgian creative talent, inspire a large amount of visitors, testcase possible commercial concepts and create a meeting point for creatives and industry. As one of their 4000+ members I was selected to present ScooterDesks and the Doxy in the shop. For the occasion a special addict labfile was published.

At Aluminium 2006 in Essen, Germany, More than 600 exhibitors from 38 countries presented their products and services dedicated to the material aluminium. On display there, selected as candidate for an European aluminium award, was my Foldy bookrack.

ScooterDesk praised in international designcompetition

And there it was, the ScooterDesk, getting cosy with Hella Jongerius’s Polder Sofa. Indeed the ScooterDesk keeps getting thumbs up, and won a honourable mention, and thus publication, at America’s ID magazine’s annual design review.

Hey! Samsung well-designed brand/info magazine DigitAlloffers a cameo on the ScooterDesk in an article on about Ad!dict Creative Lab’s Jan Van Mol.

Utilia’s cd-packaging adored in international designcompetition

The cd-packaging Utilia designed for pop-singer Anita Lixel won a step-100 design award, and thus was covered (nicely) in America’s graphic design magazine Step Inside Design special issue on their awards.

Utilia scores at Milan furniturefair

Some Dutch coverage in the national newspaper’s Het Laatste Nieuws special addition magazine ‘Extra’ on the presentation of Utilia’s new collection during the Salone del Mobile 2006, part of the Design-to.be event, that presented Belgian’s finest designers and design-driven companies at the Zona Tortona, in Superstudio 13

ScooterDesk success down under

The Australian product-design-magazine Curve devoted an entire (and well laid-out) page to the ScooterDesk. And again a cameo(picture) for the ScooterDesk in an interview about Ad!dict Creative Lab’s Jan Van Mol.

ScooterDesk enjoyed by Swedish designcritics

Also the redaction of Sweden’s nr1 designmagazine Form took notice of the ScooterDesk.

Scrivania a rotelle

A short article about the ScooterDesk in Italy’s biggest selling and most widely read magazine, on science & technology: Focus

Also a funny snippet of a cameo in The Italian newspaper La Republica about the designers-hotel Casa dei Designer 2006 I stayed during the Salone del Mobile, Milan, for the second time. For the record, I am not Danish, but Flemish, that was a typo.

ScooterDesk covered in Croatia

I found the ScooterDesk has been published in this Magazine named Majstor, from Zagreb, Croatia. If anyone has any more info on this please let me know.

ScooterDesk appeals to wide audience

Even a leading Flemish woman-magazine Goed Gevoel found the ScooterDesk of interest for their readers; ScooterDesks have appealed to readers far beyond the design and living-scene: ICT, computers, lifestye, gadgets, general interest, marketing, science & technology…

ScooterDesks to Denmark

Utilia’s ScooterDesk was top nominated for index:designaward 2005, moreover Utilia was the only Belgian entry to be top-nominated, except for one young architecture studio; the naked architects, who became good friends. Reason enough for some coverage in national Belgian newspapers and magazines such as: Het Laatste Nieuws, Gazet van Antwerpen and the quality magazine Weekend Knack

ScooterDesk picked up in Hong Kong

Next Magazine Hong Kong keep their ears close to the ground when it comes to new innovations, and so published an article in their enormously popular magazine. On top they were so kind to send me some the issue and some others (remarkably interesting and divers content) in a nice ‘button and cord’ closed envelope.

Denmark ignites ScooterDesk hype

It was Bettina from Denmark who mailed me with some questions about the ScooterDesk, and so I found out Utilia was top nominated for index:designaward 2005 and was featured in Denmark’s newspaper Politiken. Thanks for the copy Bettina!

.bezign, a collective of some of the finest designers from Belgium, brought together by Damien Bihr from [NAos design Brussels] (http://www.naosdesign.com/) organized their first show at Gallery Grosetti during the Milan designweek 05. As documented in their lovely oversized (and well-spread) magazine published for this occasion.

Utilia designs and develops products and spaces. They offer some of their finest products to consumers worldwide.

Utilia, a name joining utilitarian and utopia, just enjoys making great products. These products take their cue from consumer's true needs and wishes. Not from trends or snobbism. They are foremost utilitarian: no-nonsense, sincere, functional, timeless 'tools of life'. But they are equally well-balanced, elegant and playful. Stemming from a deep understanding of production processes and a desire to innovate. Great effort also goes into optimising product lifecycles resulting in sustainable and affordable products, even when they are manufactured in the West.
