concept
‘Wally’ is an all-purpose freestanding self-supportive affordable DIY-assembly (flatpack) dividing wall/system: An infinitely extendable partitioning system to be used to split up big home- or workspaces.
pre-assembly
Once all the elements are out of the box, and before the actual assembly, the elements need to be bended into shape by hand, along preformed stamped ‘dotted’ folding lines. The user can decide which curve the resulting wall will be in, by bending the angle of the elements slightly more open or closed.
After this pre-assembly the elements can still be compactly stored (for moving houses) as they nest into each other.
function
At 4 kg per element interlocking with the included plastic thumb and coin nuts and bolts is child’s play. Yet the whole has enough weight for a sturdy wall.
packaging, ecology, materials
Wally really pushes the envelope of what is possible with minimal and highly efficient use of affordable (renewable) materials, setting a example for sustainable end ecologic products for a bigger public.
Wally’s 6 elements arrive all flat, stamped form a roll of 2 sided precoated metalsheet with practically no wasted sheetmaterial. This way its packaging volume is astonishingly minimized compared to its assembled volume ( 0,024 vs 0,75m3). The contours of the packaging are exactly below the maximum length allowed by UPS worldwide parcel service (330cm). This means less fuelconsumption of the freight airplane, and thus a more green and affordable endproduct available worldwide form day 1.
esthetics
Despite its flexible setup and flatpack delivery, Wally’s sculptural, sexy form, and indefinite repetition of the elements give it an architectural feel. Wally truly shines with high numbers of elements: In a slight curve one can make entire circular or oval meetingrooms, or other sub rooms within a large space. All for a very low cost.
